Job Description

Teach students the Hebrew language and Jewish religion, history and culture that are an integral part of the structure, content and history of this ancient yet living and modern language for a private school anchored in Jewish values and traditions. 

Essential Duties:

  • Prepare lesson plans and teach students to read, write and speak the Hebrew language including, grammar, vocabulary, syntax, structure, etymology and meaning;
  • Engage students in meaningful and authentic learning about Jewish history, culture and the State of Israel;
  • Facilitate Jewish prayer (tefillah), through Havdalah, shabbat sing, Kabbalat shabbat and annual holidays;
  • Celebrate Jewish life cycle events, various customs across the Jewish diaspora and how they connect to the individual lives of each student and family;
  • Use Hebrew oral and written language, including religious and secular resources to connect students to Jewish customs, traditions and beliefs;
  • Engage in curricular and pedagogical professional development opportunities on and off campus;
  • Participate actively in the life of the school through attendance at school events, committee meetings, and extracurricular activities, contributing and embracing new ideas and thoughtful reflections at team meetings, faculty meetings and parent meetings;
  • Partner with families in student goal setting and providing suggestions and support to enhance their child’s learning;
  • Communicate regularly with families through blogs, newsletters, phone calls, emails, etc.; Establish professional goals each year based upon the schoolwide goals;
  • Monitor student progress through ongoing formative and summative assessments;
  • collaborating with colleagues in designing, implementing and assessing best practices in teaching and learning;
  • Manage classroom procedures through consistent, well-articulated expectations      
  • Demonstrate sensitivity toward each student’s academic, social and emotional gifts and challenges.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to building a positive, inclusive school culture rooted in Jewish and Epstein’s core values.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Seeks to improve through self-reflection, constructive feedback and/or professional development activities
  • Oral and written fluency required for Hebrew teaching positions
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office as well as other relevant educational platforms

Education & Other Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Education, Teaching, Hebrew, or other relevant field.
  • Hebrew fluency (written and verbal) required for Hebrew teaching positions.
  • Experience: Minimum of 18-months as a Hebrew (and/or Judaic Studies) teacher.

Physical Requirements:  The employee must be able to:

  • Communicate clearly
  • Physically able to use a computer with basic proficiency
  • Bend, crouch, walk through the school, and move from standing to sitting on the floor and back.
  • Use hands and fingers to reach, grab, write, handle, feel & control objects
  • See, talk and hear
  • Occasionally lift and/or carry objects 30 lbs.
  • Lightly clean and maintain equipment in the classroom 
  • Work in a busy and occasionally noisy environment

About the Role:

  • FLSA: Exempt, Salaried, Full-time  
  • Work Calendar: 190-days based on the academic year
  • Reports To: Division Principal
  • Annual Salary: $50,000 to $70,000 (commensurate with experience)
