Evangelical Christian School is seeking a Christ-centered, passionate 8th Grade American History Teacher to join our Middle School faculty. This teacher will guide students through the chronological study of American History, helping them understand the key events, ideas, documents, and individuals that have shaped the United States.
The ideal candidate will cultivate historical thinking, civic responsibility, and thoughtful engagement with the past while intentionally integrating a Christian worldview into classroom instruction and culture. In addition to academic instruction, this teacher will invest in students’ spiritual formation through daily discipleship, mentoring students as they grow in faith, character, and leadership.
American History Instruction (Grade 8):
Teach a comprehensive American History curriculum, including foundational documents, major historical eras, and significant political, cultural, and economic developments
Develop students’ historical thinking skills, including cause and effect, continuity and change over time, and evidence-based argumentation
Guide students in the analysis of primary and secondary sources
Lead thoughtful, respectful discussions of historical events and ideas within a biblical worldview
Design and assess written assignments, projects, and presentations that demonstrate historical understanding
Use a variety of assessments to evaluate student learning and inform instruction
Collaborate with middle school colleagues to align curriculum and promote best practices in instruction
Discipleship & Student Mentorship:
Lead a small D Group (Discipleship Group) of approximately ten students that meets daily to support spiritual growth and biblical understanding
Build strong relationships with students, providing guidance, encouragement, and accountability
Model Christian character and civic responsibility inside and outside the classroom
Pray for and with students, helping them connect historical study with faith, truth, and wisdom
Classroom Culture & Communication:
Foster a structured, respectful, and engaging learning environment
Communicate clearly and effectively with parents and guardians
Provide timely, constructive feedback to support student growth
Maintain accurate and timely grading and reporting in PowerSchool
Bachelor’s degree in History, Education, or a related field
Middle school teaching experience preferred
Strong content knowledge in American History and experience with middle school learners
A clear commitment to Christian education and alignment with ECS’s mission and Statement of Faith
Strong communication skills, collaborative mindset, and a heart for mentoring young adolescents
