Position Objective
Mountain Sun Community School seeks an Assistant Head of School for Faculty to serve as the school’s primary instructional leader and steward of faculty growth across our PK–8 Montessori program. This role ensures instructional coherence, program integrity, and continuous improvement in teaching and learning across all levels of the school.
Reports to: Head of School
Works with: Mountain Sun faculty, staff, and families
Compensation & Benefits: Compensation for this full-time, salaried position is based on experience and includes substantial MSCS tuition remission and a retirement plan.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead instructional quality and Montessori program coherence PK–8
- Conduct classroom observations and provide coaching and feedback
- Lead faculty evaluation and growth processes
- Mentor and support new and developing teachers
- Design and lead professional development
- Support vertical curriculum alignment and spiral progression
- Guide assessment philosophy and academic progress practices
- Partner with families and faculty around academic growth
- Contribute to hiring and program stewardship
Qualifications
- Strong instructional leadership experience
- Demonstrated skill in teacher coaching and evaluation
- Deep understanding of child development and pedagogy
- Experience leading adult learning
- Excellent observation and feedback skills
- Commitment to sustainable leadership practice
Education & Credentials
- Bachelor’s degree required
- Master’s degree in education, curriculum & instruction, educational leadership, or related field strongly preferred
- Montessori credential (AMI, AMS, or MACTE-accredited) or equivalent Montessori leadership experience strongly preferred
- An equivalent combination of education and leadership experience in Montessori or mission-aligned school settings may be considered.
