Position Summary

The School seeks a full-time Physical Education teacher who will also serve as a Head Coach for a varsity sport aligned with program needs for the 2026-2027 school year. The specific sport assignment will be determined based on candidate experience and School priorities and may include Girls Basketball or Crew.

Essential Functions

Teaching

  • Foster a supportive and inclusive classroom culture that promotes physical wellness and character development
  • Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum planning and instructional strategies
  • Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and concerns
  • Maintain accurate attendance and grading records and complete report cards on schedule
  • Assist with supervisory duties, such as carpool or lunch coverage, as needed
  • Support school games and events, which may occur after hours and on weekends
  • Contribute to all School and Divisional faculty meetings
  • Perform all other duties appropriate to employment as determined by the Head of School

Coaching & Player Development

  • Teach and coach sport specific fundamentals, advanced skills, conditioning, and game strategy
  • Plan and lead effective practices for High School Varsity and Middle School teams, including camps and/or summer programs
  • Develop student-athletes individually and collectively, promoting a positive and competitive culture grounded in sportsmanship, resilience, and school pride
  • Provide leadership, organization, and supervision for all team-related activities, including practices, games, travel, and events
  • Recruit, support, and retain student-athletes and families to grow participation and strengthen program community
  • Implement proper injury prevention techniques and follow athletic trainer recommendations

Communication & Professionalism

  • Communicate proactively with athletes, families, athletics staff, and school administrators
  • Model professionalism, integrity, and alignment with the school’s mission and core values
  • Report injuries, incidents, or safety concerns according to school protocol
  • Comply with all school and NCISAA policies, rules, and regulations
  • Attend required coaches’ meetings, training sessions, and professional development, as needed

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Varsity or college-level coaching experience
  • Willingness and ability to coach multiple athletic teams
  • Passion for working with students
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Energetic leader with strong organizational and classroom management skills
  • Collaborative mindset and eagerness to contribute to school culture
  • Valid CPR, First Aid, and AED certification, or ability to obtain upon hire

Preferred:

  • 3-5 years of experience teaching
  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), or willingness to obtain upon hire
