Middle School Latin Teacher

Job Description

Stratford Academy, a PK-12 co-educational independent school in Macon, GA, is seeking applicants for the full-time, 10-month position of Middle School Latin teacher to begin on August 1, 2026. 

 

The Middle School at Stratford is seeking an engaging, passionate, and innovative Latin teacher for the 2026-2027 school year. Ideal candidates should be able to teach courses across grades 6-8 based on the needs of the World Languages department. Furthermore, ideal candidates should be able to help develop and implement a foundational course for all sixth graders that emphasizes inter-disciplinary applications of learning Latin. Additionally, ideal candidates should be prepared to develop and teach Latin language and Roman culture classes in grades 7 and 8 that build upon their foundation. A typical course load consists of 5 class periods and 2 to 3 preps.  Middle school teaching experience is preferred. Please submit a resume to: employment@stratford.org

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teach 5 sections of relevant class(es)

  • Create engaging and rigorous lessons for students

  • Provide highly effective instruction and quality assessments

  • Provide a developmentally appropriate, safe, efficient, and effective learning environment that promotes critical thinking, collaboration, and a love of learning for students

  • Provide individualized help and feedback to students to support academic growth and success

  • Talk to parents about their child’s progress

  • Maintain accurate records of student progress, grades, and attendance

  • Maintain current lesson plans and up-to-date scope and sequences, in collaboration with department

  • Meet and work with other teachers, department chair, and Division Head

  • Attend faculty, department, and committee meetings both during and after school hours

 

Additional Responsibilities: 

  • Advise students as part of the Middle School Advisory Program, providing academic and social-emotional support

  • Contribute to the larger school community through coaching or sponsoring

  • Participate in school events and extracurricular activities as needed

  • Support the school’s mission by contributing to an inclusive community culture

  • Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Latin, Classics, Humanities or a related field (Master’s degree preferred)

  • Teaching certification or relevant credentials with demonstrated experience in teaching Latin of Classics

  • A minimum of 2-3 years of teaching experience, ideally in an independent school setting

  • Strong classroom management skills and the ability to engage and inspire middle school students

  • Excellent organization, communication, and interpersonal skills
