Position Summary: This position involves working in College Counseling as an Associate Director of College Counseling. This position will begin on August 1, 2026.  
 
Specific Duties Include:
  • Providing students and parents with personalized advice appropriate for each grade level, helping them explore interests and identify college or university communities that match each student’s talents and aspirations.
  • Counseling and advocating for a group of primary counselees, expertly informing and supporting them through academic and cocurricular priorities, developing a balanced college list, strategizing and maximizing standardized tests, seeking scholarships and financial aid, crafting essays and resumes, and teaching students to interview effectively.
  • Implementing counseling programs (such as case studies, parent programs, and admission panels) and collaborating with other campus departments; sharing college advice authoritatively and confidently with a diverse community. 
  • Crafting thoughtful and lively letters of recommendation that capture the talents, personality, and promise of each student.
  • Effectively utilizing technology such as Scoir and webinars to maximize counseling effectiveness.
  • Engaging in the Woodward community and in college counseling professional organizations such as NACAC, SACAC, NAIS, and ACCIS; visiting colleges and universities and networking with admission representatives.
 
Required Skills:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and presentational skills.
  • Ability to leverage technology, including but not limited to, Microsoft Office, Ti Inspire calculator, SmartBoard, and a Learning Management System. 
  • A solid understanding of the college preparatory school environment as well as an understanding of independent school students and parents with the ability to navigate with tact and diplomacy. 
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and management skills.
 
Minimum Job Qualifications: 
  • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree or higher preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience in college counseling or college admissions.
  • Independent school experience preferred, but not required.
 
 
The Associate Director, College Counseling position is an exempt, 10-month position.
