Upper School Mathematics Teacher (Algebra/Precalculus)
The Opportunity
Webb School of Knoxville seeks an experienced Upper School Mathematics Teacher with a strong background in Algebra I, Algebra II, and Precalculus who is eager and prepared to teach across multiple levels of the curriculum. This role is ideal for an educator who views mathematics not simply as a sequence of procedures, but as a discipline that develops reasoning, pattern recognition, and depth of learning.
At Webb, math classrooms are places where students learn to think carefully, make connections across concepts, and communicate their understanding with clarity. We are looking for a teacher who enjoys helping students build both confidence and competence as they grow into independent problem-solvers.
What You Will Do
As a member of the Mathematics Department and the Upper School faculty, you will:
Design and teach engaging, well-sequenced courses in Algebra I, Algebra II, and/or Precalculus, with the ability to teach other Upper School math courses as needed
Create a classroom culture where persistence, curiosity, and thoughtful risk-taking are expected and supported
Help students develop conceptual understanding alongside procedural fluency
Guide students in recognizing patterns, making connections, and applying mathematical thinking in meaningful ways
Use varied assessments and feedback to support reflection, growth, and depth of learning
Collaborate with colleagues to strengthen curriculum alignment and advance departmental goals
Integrate technology and innovative pedagogy to deepen engagement and understanding
Build strong relationships with students and families through clear communication and mentorship
Contribute actively to the life of the school as an advisor, colleague, and community member
Model Webb’s core values of academic excellence, integrity, critical thinking, and care for others
Who You Are
You likely have:
A bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Education, or a related field (advanced degrees preferred)
Demonstrated success teaching high school mathematics, particularly Algebra I, Algebra II, and/or Precalculus
The flexibility and content knowledge to teach across the Upper School math curriculum
A student-centered approach that prioritizes depth of learning over coverage
A commitment to collaboration, mentorship, and ongoing professional growth
A clear alignment with Webb School of Knoxville’s mission and values
If you are drawn to teaching mathematics in a school where relationships matter, understanding is built with care, and learning is designed to last, we invite you to consider joining us. Send your resume and cover letter to John Micheletto, Director of Faculty and Instructional Programs (john.micheletto@webbschool.org).
