Kindergarten General Studies Teacher

Job Description

B’nai Shalom Day School seeks a nurturing, enthusiastic, and collaborative Kindergarten General Studies Teacher who is passionate about creating a joyful and engaging first school experience. The ideal candidate understands the unique developmental needs of five- and six-year-olds and fosters a classroom where children feel safe, valued, and inspired to learn.

The Kindergarten teacher will provide developmentally appropriate instruction in literacy, mathematics, science, and social studies through hands-on exploration, play-based learning, purposeful inquiry, and meaningful experiences. This teacher will cultivate foundational academic skills while helping students develop independence, confidence, curiosity, and strong social-emotional competencies.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement B'nai Shalom's Kindergarten curriculum and follow the established scope and sequence for phonics and reading, mathematics, science, and social studies while differentiating instruction to meet the needs of individual learners.

  • Deliver engaging, developmentally appropriate lessons that build strong foundations in phonics, reading, writing, mathematics, science, and social studies while ensuring alignment with the school's curriculum and learning goals.

  • Create a warm, welcoming classroom environment where every child feels known, supported, and encouraged to take academic and social risks.

  • Incorporate play-based learning, centers, movement, hands-on exploration, and inquiry to promote meaningful learning experiences.

  • Foster children's social-emotional development by explicitly teaching classroom routines, self-regulation, problem-solving, responsibility, and positive peer relationships.

  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse developmental, academic, and social needs of young learners.

  • Observe, assess, and document student growth through a variety of formative and summative assessment practices to inform instruction.

  • Partner closely with families through regular communication, conferences, and collaboration to support each child's academic and personal development.

  • Collaborate with Jewish Studies teachers, specialists, learning support staff, and colleagues to create integrated and meaningful learning experiences.

  • Integrate technology thoughtfully and purposefully to enhance student learning.

  • Participate actively in faculty meetings, professional development, school events, and the life of the B'nai Shalom community.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, or a related field required; Master's degree preferred.

  • Teaching certification in Early Childhood or Elementary Education preferred.

  • Experience teaching Kindergarten or early elementary students preferred.

  • Strong understanding of early childhood development and developmentally appropriate practice.

  • Knowledge of evidence-based early literacy and numeracy instruction.

  • Excellent classroom management skills with an emphasis on positive guidance and relationship-building.

  • Outstanding communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.

  • Commitment to reflective practice, professional growth, and continuous learning.

  • Appreciation for and willingness to support the mission, values, and traditions of a Jewish day school community.
